IMPORTANT NOTICE:

⚠️Fraud Alert: Phone Scam Impersonating Bank Fraud Department

Release: April 17, 2026

Monterey County Bank is aware of an active phone scam targeting our customers. In the past 24 hours, we have received multiple reports of fraudulent callers impersonating bank "Fraud and Security" personnel.

How the Scam Works

Scammers are calling claiming to be from a bank’s “Fraud & Security” department and tell you there is a pending ACH withdrawal on your account. They then ask you to “verify” information (such as your account number, routing number, online banking credentials, or a one‑time passcode) in order to stop the transfer.

In at least one recent attempt, the caller identified himself as “Mitchell Evans from Monterey County Bank Fraud & Security” and called from (808) 252‑2459.

⚠️ Caller ID can be spoofed. The name or number that appears on your phone is not proof the call is legitimate.

What We Will Never Do

  • We will never call you and ask you to provide your full account number, debit card number, PIN, online banking password, or a one‑time passcode.
  • We will never pressure you to act immediately to “release” or “cancel” a transfer over the phone.
  • We will never ask you to move money to a “safe” or “holding” account.

What to Do If You Receive a Call Like This

  1. Hang up. Do not answer questions, even to say “no.”
  2. Do not call back the number the caller provides.
  3. Call us directly using the phone number printed on the back of your card or on your monthly statement, and ask to speak with someone about the suspicious call.
  4. If you shared any information, contact us immediately so we can secure your account.
